Based on the Hofner PreAmp of the 1960’s, layout and features modified for today! Features include knobs for Gain and Boost, and a Preamp or Fuzz Switch that changes the gain structure. Everything from adding a little Ge flavor and sparkle to full on fuzzed out boost, with great cleanup throughout.

Loving this Silver Vein Enclosure and Silver Cliff knob combo! This one also features a power jack and LED. Inside the circuit is built point to point using all NOS components; Black Glass OC42 Germanium transistor, Sprague, Frako, Philips and Mustard caps, carbon comp resistors. Controls for Gain and Boost, plus a switch for “Fuzz” mode and a low cut toggle.

Inside the gray hammered enclosure is a unique boost/preamp circuit from the 60’s, originally made by Hofner. With a little help from R2R this circuit was rediscovered and reborn. It was designed to use as a preamp in front of a radio for use as a guitar amplifier. As it turns out the circuit is A LOT like a Rangemaster, but with alternate values giving it a little bit cleaner tone and a lot flatter response. It works particularly well with single coils to fatten up your tone and give it some grit.

I’ve added a couple of mods, an extra bias to increase the gain or lower it, as well as a switch that turns it into a more fuzzy boosted sound with more output and a low cut toggle.

On this particular version I’ve built it up point to point using custom Seeker eyelet board with all NOS components including one Black Glass OC42 Germanium transistor, NOS Philips, Mustard, Frako and Sprague caps, and NOS carbon comp resistors. Dig it!
